Man Utd Team News: Injuries, suspensions and line-up vs Cardiff City

With no chance of qualifying for the Champions League following their 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town last week, Manchester United will end their season on an anti-climactic note when Cardiff City visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

After the tumult of this season, many United fans will already be pining for next season to begin, but there is the small matter of attempting to secure a place in the Europa League group stage to deal with first.

A United win and anything other than victory for Arsenal at Burnley would see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finish in fifth place and avoid an agonising wait to see whether they could end up playing in three qualifying rounds of the Europa League, beginning in July.Antonio Valencia is in line to return for a send-off ahead of his summer departure. The club captain has missed the last 24 matches since playing at Newcastle in January.

Eric Bailly is out after the knee injury he sustained against Chelsea, and Romelu Lukaku is also likely to be absent due to the hamstring injury which kept him out of the trip to Huddersfield.Alexis Sanchez looks set to miss out after sustaining an ankle injury at the John Smith’s Stadium.

United have no outstanding suspension concerns due to the FA’s late-season amnesty on yellow cards for any players with fewer than 15 bookingsSolskjaer is set to name an experimental line-up after revealing on Friday morning that some of the club’s academy products will start against Cardiff.

“It might be the last game for some but it might be the start of some careers as well. We’ve had some young players knocking on the door all season really, and we’ll start with one or two of the kids as well.”That could mean a full debut for 17-year-old Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year Mason Greenwood, while Reserve Team Player of the Year Tahith Chong could also play from the off.

Dylan Levitt, Angel Gomes, James Garner and Arnau Puigmal could also be in contention for a place in the squad after training with the senior squad this week.Elsewhere, Valencia should slot in at right-back in his final United appearance while Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Luke Shaw will be on the left.

PHILADELPHIA — Good morning. This afternoon will go a long way toward determining how the Philadelphia Eagles end their season.

The Birds host the Houston Texans at Lincoln Financial Field on CBS at 1 p.m., and with a win, the Eagles would continue their drive toward a playoff spot that seemed so unlikely a scant two weeks ago.

That, of course, was in the aftermath of a 29-23 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys on the road.

That, of course, was before the Eagles upset the Los Angeles Rams, 30-23.

So now the Texans are the next opponent. There are some intriguing matchups in the game, and the Texans boast some of the more interesting names in the sport — J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Tyrann Mathieu, Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins, just to name a few. And the Eagles will have their work cut out for them.

They also need help.

Here’s everything you need to know for Sunday’s game.

Stats to know

  • Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery’s 160 receiving yards against the Rams were the seventh-most by an Eagles player in a game since 2010. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin share the six spots ahead of him.
  • Jeffery’s 17 receiving touchdowns since the start of 2017 (including playoffs) are the most on the Eagles.
  • Tight end Zach Ertz has an Eagles single-season record 101 catches. He trails only Jason Witten (110) and Tony Gonzalez (102) for the most catches by a tight end in a single season.
  • Ertz is third in the NFL in catches and third among NFL tight ends in receiving yards (1,038).
  • Ertz’s 422 catches put him four behind Brian Westbrook (426) for third place on the Eagles all-time receptions list.
  • Ertz’s 4,702 receiving yards put him in 11th place all-time in Eagles history, and he trails Ben Hawkins by 62 for 10th place and Maclin by 69 for ninth.
  • Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox ranks second in the NFL with 29 quarterback hits. Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald leads with 34.
  • Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks hasn’t allowed a sack in 2018.

Patriots vs Bills

Patriots vs Bills: Who to start and sit in fantasy football playoffs

Click here To Watch Live Stream

For many fantasy football leagues around the world, this is it: championship week. The final week of the season. Every waiver wire pickup, every strategic trade, every draft day decision… it’s all led up to this.

Now, with all the chips on the table, it’s never been more important to ace your starting roster decisions.

Chances are if you’ve made it this far, you’re probably not tinkering too much with your team. Still, injuries are as much a part of fantasy football as they are a part of real-life football. If you’re an owner of Todd Gurley, Keenan Allen, Julio Jones, or a number of other high-profile players that might sit out this week, it’s time to make some contingency plans.

Julian Edelman

Tom Brady’s favorite target has quietly had a very respectable season, especially considering he missed a quarter of it while serving his PED suspension. Edelman’s 711 yards ranks first on the team now that Josh Gordon is gone, and his four touchdown receptions are second only to James White’s six.

It’s safe to assume No. 11 could be seeing a lot more balls thrown his way now that No. 10 is no longer in the picture. Cordarrelle Patterson, Chris Hogan, and Phillip Dorsett are all more logical candidates to fill the void Gordon left behind, at least in terms of positional value to the offense.

But Edelman might stand the most to gain statistically in his absence, and that could start as early as Sunday against the Bills.

Cordarrelle Patterson, Chris Hogan, and Phillip Dorsett

As stated above, all three receivers are natural beneficiaries of the Gordon situation. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to succeed Sunday against the Bills.

It’s not just the fact that they’ll likely cancel each other out from a fantasy football relevance standpoint. It’s also the fact that Buffalo’s defense is really, really good.

The Bills are No. 1 in the league when it comes to passing defense. They’re one of only two teams in the NFL allowing less than 200 passing yards per game (the other is Jacksonville), and they specialize in taking away the deeper parts of the field and keeping all the action in front of them.

Add it all up, and the matchup doesn’t look favorable for any Patriots weapons that rely on vertical speed to do their damage. If New England wants to go through the air, better to do it with Edelman in the slot and James White coming out of the backfield.

LeSean McCoy

Until the Patriots can prove their run defense is actually a run defense, opponents will focus their gameplans on gashing New England on the ground. Per ESPN, the Pats are allowing a generous 4.99 yards per rush this season – the worst mark in their history under Bill Belichick.

Buffalo, for their part, are ranked ninth in the league in rushing offense. A lot of that production can be attributed to the wheels on their rookie quarterback, Josh Allen, who has already run for about a third as many yards as he’s thrown for.

But McCoy is still a workhorse, a true three-down back on a team that wants to run the ball and play solid defense. More importantly, he’s fresh and he’s healthy after sitting out last week’s game to get his hamstring right.

Expect Shady to have a big afternoon against the Pats’ soft front seven.

Bengals vs Browns

– Cleveland owns the third-best record in the league against the spread this season at 9-5 and has been just as good at home this year, sporting a 5-2 ATS record at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Bengals vs Browns Live Stream Free

– As for hitting the over, Cleveland has gone over the total in six of their 14 games while the Bengals have the third-best record in the league with an 8-5-1 record when betting the over.

– The Bengals own a 50-40 all-time record against the Browns and were on a seven-game winning streak in the series until Cleveland won their first meeting earlier this season.

– First Touchdown Scorer: Nick Chubb (+420) – Chubb has been borderline unstoppable since Carlos Hyde was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The rookie out of Georgia has found the end zone in five of the last six games he’s played and his 22 rushing attempts in the red zone lead the team by a huge margin. The Bengals’ run defense can’t stop anyone and as long as the Browns get the ball to start the game, it’s likely that Chubb will put Cleveland on the board first.

– First Half Points Total: Under 23 (-115) – Cincy and Cleveland have had sub-par seasons this year and a lot of that has to do with struggling to score early in the game. The Bengals are averaging 13.1 first-half points per game while Cleveland isn’t too far behind, averaging 9.3 points in the first half of games this season. Anything can happen on any given Sunday, but strictly from a statistical standpoint, it’s more likely than not that this games remains under 23 points in the first half on Sunday.

The Panthers are back home for the last time in 2018, and this week they will welcome the Falcons to Bank of America Stadium for a game with little more than pride on the line. While the Panthers aren’t officially eliminated, they’re all but out of the playoff picture after losing last Monday night to the Saints and falling to 6-8 on the season.

The Falcons aren’t doing much better at 5-9, but this game is always a fight from start to finish regardless of where the two teams are in the standings. The Panthers will hope to salvage something out of this season, and a win against their division rivals is a good place to start, so hopefully they can do just that.

Redskins vs Titans

Saturday NFL games: Redskins vs. Titans odds, line, picks from expert who’s 15-6 on Washington games

Playoff hopefuls collide in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday when the Tennessee Titans (8-6) host the Washington Redskins (7-7). It’s a 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff from Nissan Stadium and the game will have massive implications on the NFL playoff picture. The Titans have won three straight and sit in a three-way tie with the Ravens and Colts for the final AFC wild-card spot. Meanwhile, the Redskins have overcome a slew of injuries and sit a half-game behind Minnesota for the last NFC wild-card spot. Sportsbooks list Tennessee as a 10-point favorite, with the over-under for total points scored set at 37 in the latest Titans vs. Redskins odds. Before you make any Titans vs. Redskins picks and predictions for Saturday NFL games, see what NFL guru R.J. White has to say.

CBS Sports’ NFL editor and SportsLine’s No. 1 NFL expert, White enters Week 16 with a stunning 15-6 record picking for or against Washington, including nailing the Skins (+7.5) at Jacksonville last week. “Washington has the motivational edge, as even with the injuries they’re still in the playoff race, and they’ll play like it here,” White urged readers. The result: Redskins 16, Jaguars 13 — an outright upset by a massive dog.

Moreover, White is 8-3 in his past 11 spread picks for or against Tennessee, giving him a sterling 23-9 mark in picks involving these two teams. In his past 60 NFL point-spread picks overall, White has been right 41 times, returning nearly $2,000 to those following him.

Now, White has pounced on what he calls a mistake in the Redskins vs. Titans spread (stream live on fuboTV). He has locked in a strong pick and only sharing it over at SportsLine.

White knows the Titans are rolling behind running back Derrick Henry, who has exploded for 408 rushing yards and six touchdowns over the past two games. In that span, he has averaged an eye-popping 8.2 yards per carry. Henry is up to 11 touchdowns this season and should get another big workload Saturday. Tennessee has covered seven of its past nine home games and five of its past six in December.

But just because the Titans are at home and have a powerful ground game doesn’t mean they’ll cover a double-digit spread against the gritty Redskins.

White also knows Washington rallied last week behind recently signed quarterback Josh Johnson, who has accounted for three touchdowns and one turnover since taking over for Mark Sanchez midway through Week 14. Johnson has rushed for 94 yards on 16 carries, giving this offense a much-needed new dimension.

Washington is 11-5 against the spread in its past 16 games against winning teams and has just as much motivation as Tennessee.

We can tell you White is leaning under, but his much stronger play is on the side. White says a hidden x-factor has him going big on one side of the spread. He’s only sharing what it is, and who to back, at SportsLine.

Who wins Redskins vs. Titans? And what hidden x-factor makes one side of the spread a must-back? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the spread you need to jump on, all from the No. 1 expert who’s 15-6 on picks involving the Redskins, and find out.

Chargers vs Ravens

Ravens vs. Chargers odds, line: Picks, predictions from advanced computer model on 16-6 roll

Click here To watch Live Stream FREe

A game with massive implications for the AFC playoff picture kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET Saturday when the Los Angeles Chargers host the Baltimore Ravens. The Chargers are 11-3, but are only the No. 5 seed because they’re in the same division as the 11-3 Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Ravens are 8-6 and own the No. 6 seed, but could fall out of the NFL playoff picture with a loss. L.A. is a four-point home favorite in the latest Ravens vs. Chargers odds, with the over-under at 43. Before making any Ravens vs. Chargers picks and predictions, you need to see what the SportsLine Projection Model says.

SportsLine’s proprietary computer model went 176-80 straight up last season and beat over 95 percent of CBS Sports Office Pool players in 2016 and ’17. It also performed better than 98 percent of experts tracked by during that span. Additionally, it went 48-34 on A-rated picks against the spread, and $100 bettors who have followed it the past two seasons are up nearly $4,000.

The model has continued to nail its top-rated picks in 2018, entering Week 16 on a blistering 16-6 run. For the season, it is now 30-15 on all top-rated picks, extending its two-year run to a strong 78-49. And when it comes to all straight-up picks, the model is 147-75 on the season, ranking in the top five on Anyone who has followed it is way up.

Now, it has simulated Ravens vs. Chargers (stream live on fuboTV) 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning toward the over, and it has also generated a point-spread pick that hits in well over 50 percent of simulations. You can only see that one at SportsLine.

The computer knows that L.A. is hitting its stride as the season winds down. The Chargers are tied with the Chiefs for the top record in the AFC and are in play for postseason home-field advantage.

Veteran quarterback Philip Rivers is having an impressive season, accounting for 31 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. The team should be bolstered by the return of running back Melvin Gordon (knee), who has 802 yards rushing on 5.2 yards per carry and nine touchdowns, plus 44 catches for 453 yards in just 10 games.

L.A.’s defense is top 10 against the run and pass, and star defensive end Joey Bosa(four sacks) has only played the past five games. Fellow defensive end Melvin Ingramhas seven sacks and rookie safety Derwin James has a team-high 93 tackles.

But just because the Chargers are firing on all cylinders doesn’t mean they’ll cover the spread against the surging Ravens on Saturday night.

No team allows fewer yards (290 per game) or points (18.1) than the Ravens. Linebackers control the show, with Matt Judon, Za’Darius Smith and the ageless Terrell Suggs each with seven sacks.

The offense has turned it around with quarterback Lamar Jackson, averaging 25.6 points in his five starts compared to 20.8 the previous eight weeks. Jackson has 818 yards passing with five touchdowns and is the team’s leading rusher with 566 yards (5.0 per carry).

Since joining the rotation five weeks ago, undrafted rookie running back Gus Edwards has 486 yards and two scores. The Ravens rank No. 2 in the NFL in rushing at 142 yards per game.

Who wins Ravens vs. Chargers? And which side of the spread hits in well over 50 percent of simulations? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the Chargers vs. Ravens spread you need to jump on, all from the computer model that has returned nearly $4,000 to $100 bettors over the past two seasons, and find out.

Roma have slight doubts over a quartet of important players, with Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy, Daniele De Rossi and Lorenzo Pellegrini all working to improve their fitness ahead of Saturday.

Predicted Lineups

Juventus Szczesny; De Sciglio, Bonucci, Chiellini, Sandro; Bentancur, Pjanic, Matuidi; Dybala, Mandzukic, Ronaldo.
Roma Olsen; Florenzi, Fazio, Manolas, Kolarov; Nzonzi, Cristante; Under, Zaniolo, Kluivert; Dzeko.

Juve have a significant lead in games played between the two sides, with La Vecchia Signora winning 81 of the 170 Serie A matches.

Roma failed to score against Juventus in their two games last season, losing 1-0 away to Medhi Benatia’s strike before holding the Italian giants to a goalless draw at home.

Juventus have won six of their last seven games, the only blip on that record being a surprise 2-1 defeat to Young Boys in the Champions League.

Allegri’s side ultimately claimed the top spot in their UCL group after Manchester United lost to Valencia.

Roma managed an important 3-2 victory against Genoa last time out but the pressure is still on Eusebio Di Francesco, whose side had been winless in the five games prior to their most recent fixture.

Here’s how each team has performed in their last five fixtures:

Juventus Roma
Torino 0-1 Juventus (15/12) Roma 3-2 Genoa (16/12)
Young Boys 2-1 Juventus (12/12) Viktoria Plzen 2-1 Roma (12/12)
Juventus 1-0 Inter (7/12) Cagliari 2-2 Roma (8/12)
Fiorentina 0-3 Juventus (1/12) Roma 2-2 Inter (2/12)
Juventus 1-0 Valencia (27/11) Roma 0-2 Real Madrid (27/11)

When Juventus play at home, they will always be favourites. Roma have a massive task on their hands if they’re to get anything from the game, but any success for the visitors seems unlikely

Juve have not conceded a goal in their last five league fixtures and with Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci expected to start in defence, that record should continue here.

Man Utd team news vs Cardiff: Paul Pogba to return after Jose Mourinho sacked?

MANCHESTER UNITED take on Cardiff this weekend in their first game since Jose Mourinho’s sacking – so will Paul Pogba return to the starting line-up?

CLick here To watch Live Stream

It’s been a whirlwind week at Old Trafford as Mourinho was relieved of his duties on Tuesday and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the following morning.

Mourinho’s reign came to an end after a 3-1 loss to arch-rivals Liverpool last Sunday, which was deemed the final straw by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

The defeat left United 19 points off the table-toppers, and Old Trafford chiefs turned to Solskjaer as the man to restore a positive atmosphere at United.

The Norwegian has been appointed on an interim basis and will leave at the end of the season, but faces his first hurdle on Saturday in what will be a testing five months.

A trip to Cardiff, the club who sacked Solskjaer in 2014 after an unsuccessful spell, present the first test in the late Saturday kick-off.

Pogba will be vying for a spot in the side after becoming out of favour with Mourinho, with whom he had a fractious relationship.

The flamboyant Frenchman lacked the tactical discipline Mourinho sought in his midfielders, and has not started a league game since December 1.

Solskjaer is known for his attacking intent as a coach, however, and said in his first interview as United boss that he has not arrived with any preconceptions of players.

“Everyone in the squad knows that ‘I’ve got a chance now’ because whatever has gone, whatever has happened has happened. Now it’s just about from here,” Solskjaer told MUTV, in reference to maligned players such as Pogba.

“Everyone starts with a clean slate and we want players to perform, and we’ll give them the chance.

“We have got 23, 24 players, they’re all quality and they’ll all get a chance now.

“With the amount of games coming up, they have got a chance to show that they are Manchester United players.”

Solskjaer has favoured a 4-3-3 formation during his time as Molde manager, with one holding midfielder and two more attack-minded ballplayers.

The manager will be without Romelu Lukaku, who is on compassionate leave, while Alexis Sanchez is still recovering from a hamstring injury.

Chris Smalling remains sidelined after aggravating a foot injury before the Liverpool game, while Luke Shaw and Phil Jones are also out.

The United boss also hinted he will have input from assistants Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna in terms of squad selection for Saturday.

“Michael and Kieran have had their say and input, but there are so many games in the next 10, 15 days, so it’s about picking a team that you think is going to get results,” Solskjaer said.

“We need results but, then again, every player needs to know that they’re probably going to get their chance in this period, because that’s just the nature of the game over here in England, that we have to rotate.”

Manchester United predicted line-up vs Cardiff: De Gea; Dalot, Bailly, Lindelof, Young; Fred, Matic, Pogba; Mata, Rashford, Martial.
